Today we applied what we knew from value and made them into designs on a piece of paper. We used frottage, erasure and tracing to make these wonderful designs 'come to life'.

Mirrored Image Name Project

This is my "mirrored  image name project" . To create this piece we had to write our name in a cursive font and then replicate it on the other side as if a mirror was there. We then had to add value effects and disguise our name.  

Value and How it Enhances Drawing

Value isn't just  the quality of colour in a picture, it simply defines lines by emphasizing the lightness and darkness of them. It is crucial when drawing because it shows depth and almost gives it a 3D effect on a flat piece of paper. 

The Race to Space

Space is defined by positive and negative spacing.  Look at this picture to the left. The elephant would represent the positive space and the backdrop would represent the negative. 

In class, we learned about spacing and what spacing is. Three dimensional objects can best describe what the difference between positive and negative spacing is but, two dimensional works as well  All you have to see is the focusing point in the object and what the background would be. 

Value - What is it?

Not everything in art has to do with colour, and many think that it does since we have learned that since a small age. However, if you were to take away  a basic element that no one thinks about the world would be very dark and bland with nothing to look at. 


1. Value is the most important thing in art because without it the world would be pitch black and very very boring.

2. The element of value relates to the element of texture because they are similar in a way that they both enhance the 3D effect  to an object.

4. To build value means to gradually add on to what you are rendering.

5. We can see value best by the lightness and darkness of an object and where the light would reflect the image .

My Geometric and Organic Drawing

Geometric and organic lines show important things about art itself. The way shapes are jagged or the way shapes flow, depends on the way the artist wants you to see the perspective. 

My geometric side supposedly shows the way a city life is, by showing very strict and precise shapes as it would be to look at (as an example) roads and how they turn quickly and straight. 

My organic side supposedly shows how the country life is and how it is relaxed and flows with the earth.

Defining Line

The author defines line as an element of art that is the path of a moving point through space.  To create a line you need texture, size and direction. Dimension is like a 3D effect that tells the viewer what is supposed to be closer to them and it gives the effect that it is farther away. Artists create line by using varieties of texture, value and depth. An "outline" line is a line that can be an edge around an object but not necessarily bolder than the other lines, we just assume. An line does not have to be connected to be considered a line we just imply that it is. That is why it is called an "implied" line.
